Ben is sick.
It all started either Saturday night or Sunday morning. I can't recall which. He began coughing, a lot. He would start and get worked up and couldn't stop. The nursery worker commented on it to me, so that means I better pay attention!
Sunday after church he took a long nap, and woke up with a fever. 102F. He was pitiful. We gave him some chewable tylenol, but it didn't do much good. He played for a little bit, and ate a banana for supper, but that was about the extent of his activity.
His fever peaked at 102.8F and we switched to Motrin. Even then he was very sweaty and just wanted to be held. He finally fell asleep on the couch sitting in my lap, and I put him in his bed around 10pm. At 5:30am he woke up crying for his water cup. Husband gave him some Motrin and his water cup, and he went back to sleep, finally waking up at 8:45am.
I took him into the pediatrician's office at 11am, and she found a police car in his left ear, a boat in his right ear, and I forgot what she found in his mouth! (that is the way she entices him to let her examine him) His flu test was negative, but his ear had fluid behind it, and she didn't like the way his cough settled in his chest. So we are giving him breathing treatments three times per day with a penguin nebulizer, as well as an antibiotic for his ear. Hopefully this will make him feel better.
The pharmacy trip was exhausting. I had no idea going 2 miles to pick up his medicine (which I had dropped off 3 hours earlier) and renting a nebulizer would take 1.5 hours. With two almost 3-yr old boys. Who don't like to be still.
Ben is getting his first treatment now. Fingers crossed it goes well! Thank goodness for daddies!
